Kamila Shamsie


Kamila Shamsie (born 1973) is a Pakistani writer who works in the English language. She grew up in Karachi. Her first novel, In the City by the Sea, written at the University of Massachusetts, Amherst, was published in 1998 in India and England, and in 1999 she received the Pakistan Literary Prize. Two later Shams, Kartography and Broken Verses novels received the Patras Bukhari Award of the Pakistani Academy of Literature, and the fifth, Burnt Shadows, was nominated for an Orange Prize.
