USS Kalamazoo (1863)


USS Kalamazoo US twin-monitor, Kalamazoo main ship. Designed by Benjamin F. Delano. The naval submarine was located in the New York Navy Yard in 1863. Work on the unit was halted November 27, 1865 due to the end of the Civil War. On 15 June 1869 the name of the ship was changed to "Colossus". Built in the US Navy yard, which lacked adequate storage facilities, was built from poorly carved wood that was exposed to the environment. The "Kalamazoo" hull began to rot on the ramp and was demolished in 1884. Bibliography
