Fedora Barbieri


Fedora Barbieri (born June 4, 1920 in Trieste, March 4, 2003 in Florence) is an Italian opera singer, mezzosoprano. Career

Barbieri started her career at the Florence opera in 1940, but three years later she withdrew from professional singing due to marriage. She returned in 1945, gaining popularity as an interpreter of Claudio Monteverdi's early operas. She quickly moved to La Scala, and in 1950 she made her debut at the Metropolitan Opera as Eboli in Don Carlos Giuseppe Verdi. In this opera she played a total of 96 performances of 11 different pieces. In 1958, she re-appeared as Eboli in the Don Carlos show on the occasion of Covent Garden's London Centennial.

Barbieri never announced the official end of her career, and she appeared less and more often in the 1990s. She was one of the longest-standing classical singers. Famous roles Bibliography Authoritative control (person):
