Sidney Gilchrist Thomas


Sidney Gilchrist Thomas Sidney Gilchrist Thomas (born April 16, 1850 in Canonbury near London, died February 1, 1885 in Paris) is a British metallurgist and metal inventor. He was buried at the Passy Cemetery.

In 1878, along with his cousin, Percy Gilchrist, he developed a method of smelting steels by the method of freshening iron salts in alkaline converters and first carried out a process of shining metallurgical pig iron with high phosphorus content. The byproduct produced by the Thomas method of phosphorus-rich ores is an artificial tomassium fertilizer. Bibliography
