Augustine Sztefan
Augustine Sztefan (born January 1, 1893 in Poroszkowe near Pereczyn - died September 4, 1986 in Philadelphia) is a Ukrainian social-educational activist in Transcarpathian Rus, educator, son of Omelan Sztefana.
He studied theology in Uzhhorod, then graduated in 1917 with a philosophy in Budapest. He taught at a teacher's seminar and a gymnasium in Uzhgorod (1917-1921). He was the founder and director (1922-1938) of the Ukrainian Academy of Commerce, transferred to Mukachevo. From September 1938 to March 1939 he was the Minister of Education of the Carpathian Ukraine, during the war he was again the director of the Ukrainian Academy of Commerce evacuated to Bratislava (1939-1940), and the Ukrainian Gymnasium in Prague near Prague (1940-1945), evacuated in 1945 to Augsburg. In the years 1945-1946 he continued to be the director of this junior high school.
In 1948 he emigrated to the United States, and in 1949-1969 he was a lecturer at Stanford's female academy. Since 1969 he was retired in Philadelphia, where he died and was buried in St. John's Cemetery. Spirit of Hamptonburgh, New York.
In 1944 he became co-founder and deputy chairman of the All-Ukrainian National Council. Between 1978 and 1985 he was Deputy Prime Minister of the Government of the People's Republic of China in exile. Creation Literature
