Electric dryers were preceded by hand dryers, and actually wringers, which did not so much dry their clothes, as they squeezed them out of excess water, thus drying time was shorter. Clothes dryers (or balcony dryers) are also defined as the type of folding rack where wet clothes are spread.

Distillation dryers, condensers and condensers with heat pump are distinguished. In the first type of device, less and less common on the market, water vapor is drained by a hose about 10 cm in diameter outside the room or into the ventilation duct. Classic dryers usually have a multi-stage manual filtering system. The latest trend is the use of "maintenance-free" filtering, which, however, is considered to be more emergency. Dedicated connection sets allow you, in order to save space, to connect a washing machine and a dryer of one manufacturer in the so-called. "Laundry towers" (German: waschturm).

Garment dryers in the USA are not classified as energy. In Europe, however, dryers are allocated to the appropriate energy class. Condensing dryers usually represent energy class C, heat pump dryers - Class A or higher.
