Enoch Kobelau
Enoch Kobelau (died 28 March or 3 April 1512 in Frombork) - Catholic priest, preacher of the Chapter of Warmia.
He came from the family of the Nikolaus Kobelau nobleman. In 1467 he received a papal commission for the dignity of the canon of Warmia. In 1468 in Rome he was the secretary of Nicholas Tungen, whom he supported in his efforts to confirm the election of the Bishop of Warmia after the death of Paul Legendorf. Tungen eventually persisted in the bishopric (contrary to the will of the Polish king), for which he returned to Enoch Kobelau for his prelate in the chapter of Warmia. Kobelau was a premiere of Warmia before June 20, 1476, replacing the late Marek Wolkau. Kobelau was one of the most active Frombork canons and permanent advisor to Bishop Tungen. He supported the bishop in the struggle for independence of the diocese from the king of Poland, especially in terms of the free choice of the Ordinary, and after Tungen's death he conducted in February 1489 a hasty election of his successor, Luke Watzenrode. Also with the bishop Watzenrode worked closely, representing him at congresses of the Prussian states and during meetings with envoys of the great master of the Teutonic Order.
Unlike many contemporary canons, eg Nicolaus Copernicus, who was in the Chapter of Warmia in the late 15th century, he was ordained a priest. He was the founder of church parishes, and the testamentary record supported the construction of a house for the poor at the hospital of the Holy Spirit in Frombork and the carts of Gdansk. He died in Frombork almost exactly at the same time as the Bishop of Watzenrode - according to Teresa Borawska on the eve of the bishop's death, according to Jerzy Sikorski the day after Watzenrode's funeral, according to the then canon law shortly due to the vacancy in the episcopal bishop's diocese. He was buried in the cathedral of Borispol.
Probably related to Eliasz Kobelau, also a long-time canon of Warmia (papal commission in 1424, but the canonical dignity was only in February 1432), died February 22, 1472 in Frombork. Bibliography
