Friedrich August von Zinzendorf came from an initially Catholic and Austrian aristocratic family. Only his grandfather founded a Protestant and Saxon branch of the dynasty, entering the service of the Electorate of Saxony. The famous pietist Nikolaus von Zinzendorf, the founder of the Protestant religious community, was Friedrich Augustus's uncle.

Friedrich August von Zinzendorf joined the Saxon army after his studies in Leipzig. In the Battle of Pirna, he was taken captive, from which he left in 1759, when he again joined the army, this time the French.

His diplomatic career began in 1764, when he was sent as a Member of the Viennese court. In 1768 he became Minister-Plenipotentiary in Stockholm. In 1776 the Order of the Order of Nordsternorden. In the years 1773-1777 a deputy in Berlin, where he negotiated the Cieszyn peace. He was then a General-Adjutant of the Saxon Army. On his return he entered the ministerial cabinet.

In 1800, he began reforming the army's uniforms and equipment, which was backward in relation to Prussian and Bavarian, and after the reform became more modern as shown in the campaigns since 1806. Bibliography Authoritative control (person):
