Fred Sy


Frédéric Sy (born 1861, died?) is a French astronomer. In the years 1879-1887 he worked in the Paris Observatory, dealing with calculations, and in the years 1887-1918 at the observatory in Algiers as an assistant. During his stay in Algiers he conducted numerous observations of comets and asteroids. He discovered two asteroids. He cooperated among others. with the astronomer François Gonnessiatem, who became the director of the observatory in Algiers in 1908.

Planetoid (1714) Sy was named after him.
