The street was laid out in 1836 as Gieorgijewski Prospiekt - took its name from the church near it. Jerzy (then converted to the Georgian Church), among the Wilanów popularly called it Jierkiem. In 1918, the seat of Taryba was located here. After the Poles gained power in 1922, the street was named after Adam Mickiewicz, for a short time it was called Gediminas Avenue (1939-1940), and after the annexation of Lithuania to the Soviet Union, it was renamed Stalin's Pravette (after 1956 Lenin).
