Teodora Męczkowska

Teodora Maria from Oppmanów Męczkowska (born December 27, 1870 in Łowicz, died 1954) - Polish teacher and feminist.

She was born as a daughter of an evangelical pastor and former teacher. Initially, she was taken to school at home, under the care of her mother. Later she attended the Second Gimnazjum Żeńskiego in Warsaw. In 1892 she began studying natural science at the University of Geneva. In 1895 she married Wacław Męczkowski, a physician. A year later, she returned to Warsaw and started her studies at the University of Flying (for 4 years she studied psychology and philosophy). Since 1900 she has taught nature and physics at the women's salaries (among others Jadwiga Sikorska), in the teacher's seminar of the Society for Women's Protection and in the secret school of Stefania Sempołowska. In 1918 she was a visiting professor at the Ministry of Religious Affairs and Public Enlightenment, and since 1922 in the Kuratorium of Warsaw.

She actively participated in the Polish feminist movement, belonging to the Political Women's Progress Club and many other women's organizations. She also worked in the Association of Polish Teachers and the Polish Eugenics Society. She had deliberately resigned from having children, believing that it would hinder her from pursuing a professional and social activity. Bibliography
