The origins of thang-ta are related to mythological claims. God of Lainingthou Pakhangba instructed King Mungyamba to kill Moydan's demon from Khaga. He had to use a sword and a javelin. On the other hand, one of the Indian passages says that God started the creation of the world by the sword and the javelin. Other that god and king Nongda Lairel Pakhangba used these tools in battle. Fighting school was established around the 17th century, and its development dates back to the times of the independent kingdom of Manipur. British rule was forbidden to practice ancient martial arts. After 1947, when India regained its independence, the old tradition was revived, including the thang-ta. Bibliography
