The Wirskian Charter - a document issued by James I in 1606 regulating the settlement of new territories in America. It was created by the Royal Virginia Board of Governors, whose fourteen members were in charge of the areas stretching between 34 and 45 parallel along the American coast. One of the fruits of the adoption of the Charter was to organize the expedition of the ships Susan Constant, Godspeed and Discovery, which sailed on December 20, 1606 under Sir Christopher Newport. There were about 100 settlers altogether, including the governor, Bartholomew Gosnold.
