François Joseph Wicardel of Fleury and Beaufort

François Joseph Wicardel, Marquis de Fleury et de Beaufort (d. 1735), a politician and diplomat.

He came from a frumpy Savoyard nobility. He went to the service of Saxony, where he became a member of the Secret Cabinet. His protector was Pietro Roberto Taparelli, Count Lagnasco. Together they formed a strong Italian group within the political spectrum of the Saxon Electorate. François Joseph Wicardel de Fleury did not even know the German language, although he did for some time the function of the Saxon minister at the Viennese court.

After the death of J.H. In 1728, Flemming was considered to be headed by two ministers in each of the Secret Cabinet (SZ and SW) departments. The foreign affairs department was jointly led by Ernst Christoph von Manteuffel and François Joseph Wicardel de Fleury. First Minister Karl Heinrich von Hoym, who came after Flemming, supported Fleury in his proflucid political course, angered the pro-Austrian Manteuff who, in 1730, stepped in and replaced Pietro Roberto Taparelli, Count Lagnasco. François Joseph Wicardel did not manage to do well in the office, and as soon as Karl Heinrich von Hoym (1731) collapsed he also fell down.

From 1725 to 30 October 1731 he was the first Minister of Saxony. Bibliography
