choanocyte
Choanocytes are marked in red
Choanocytes, a single-stranded, ovular or circular cell of the inner (gastric) sponge body layer (Porifera) showing a high resemblance to the collar flap (Choanoflagellata). Flange cells are equipped with single lobes surrounded by a rim of 30-40 microvilli. In the type of ascon are directed to the spongocel, the syrup type occurs in the radial chambers, and in the type of leucon only in the baskets. These cells induce the flow of water with the oxygen and food particles through the spongocel sponge. They have the ability of pinocytosis and digestion of food, which is then passed to the archeocytes, where the final digestion occurs in digestive juices. At the entrance to the sponges of some sponges there are choanocytes (apopylechoanocytes) regulating the effect of water.
The presence of choanocytes is a characteristic and exclusive feature of sponges. Bibliography
