Explication - a term introduced by Rudolf Carnap (explication), which denotes the construction of the term P2 having the same scope as the term P1, but more precise. P1, the definition is explicandum. P2, the concept of refinement, is explicatum. One example of the explication given by Carnapa is the notion of L-truth, which is an explicatum of the notion of analytic.

The concept of "explication" is similar to the term "regulatory definition". The regulatory definition, however, serves primarily to precisely define the scope of the term, while explication is a modification of the meaning of the term. Bibliography
