Herman Sörgel
Herman Sörgel (born 2 April 1885 in Regensburg, died December 25, 1952 in Munich) is a German expressionist architect (Bauhaus), creator of the idea of building a new continent - Atlantis.
He intended to set up a water dam in the Strait of Gibraltar, the Strait of Sicily and the Dardanelles to dry up a large area of the Mediterranean (about 20%) and to connect Europe and Africa. His dream was primarily to solve Europe's energy problems. This idea gained a lot of supporters, but never had the official support of the German authorities, and during the Nazi occupation in 1942, he was banned from publishing his work in the Reich.
Sörgel died as a result of injuries suffered in a road accident. The circumstances of this event have not been fully explained. The driver of the car that the architect had traveled had fled the scene and had never been found.
