Krzysztof Berbeka
Krzysztof Berbeka (born April 11, 1930 in Pińsk, died April 1, 1964 in Zurich) is a Polish mountaineer and mountaineer, mountain lifeguard, Tatra guide. From the age of four he lived in Mszana Dolna, he was educated at the secondary school in Rabka. After graduation he moved to Zakopane and actively started climbing mountain. In 1952 he became a Tatra rescuer, took part in more than 200 rescue trips and transported about 200 injured persons. He was also a licensed Tatra guide, mountaineering instructor, skiing and mountain rescue.
Krzysztof Berbeka participated in many expeditions in the Alps (1957 participated in the famous rescue operation at Eiger, 1964), Hindukusz (1960) and Caucasus (1958, 1961). He died of injuries and frostbite which he suffered during the accident on March 18, 1964, at the time of his departure from the Dent d'Hérens.
He was buried in a new cemetery in Zakopane on Nowotarska street.
In 1965 Krzysztof Berbeka was elected patron of the Podhale Group GOPR. The climber's father: Maciej Berbeki (born 1954, lost on March 6, 2013 to Broad Peak) and Jack Berbeki (born 1959). His brother, Ryszard, is a Tatra guide. Comments Bibliography
