Pont de Bir-Hakeim


Pont de Bir-Hakeim nocą Viaduct bridge Pont de Bir-Hakeim is a bridge over the River Seine located in Paris. The bridge connects the 15th and 16th districts of Paris. The bridge crosses the Île aux Cygnes island on the Seine.

Built in 1903-1905, Pont de Bir-Hakeim replaced the Passerelle de Passy, ​​which was destroyed in 1878. The metal bridge is 227 meters long and 24.7 meters wide.

The bridge has two levels: one for pedestrians and one for pedestrians. The second level is the overpass which is above the level for cars and is part of Line 6 of the Paris subway. The viaduct of the bridge is decorated with numerous commemorative plaques, including a plaque commemorating the French soldiers who died in Belgium during World War II.

Originally, the bridge was called Pont de Passy (in honor of the former Passy commune). The name of the bridge was changed in 1948 to celebrate the Battle of Bir Hakeim in the Free French.

The Pont de Bir-Hakeim is a good viewpoint for the Eiffel Tower.
