Eumelos of Corinth

Eumelos or Eumelajos - a semi-literary Greek poet, probably from Corinth, the author of the poem "Prosodion", the processional anthem of the Mossanese independence of Delos. A small fragment of this work survived in the works of Pausanias. Eumelos was also the author of several epic works specific to the area of Corinthian-Syrian culture, particularly Corinthiaca, an epic describing the ancient Corinth. Epos Corinthiaca is missing and is known today only from the message of Pausanias.

The Eposses of Europe, Bougonia, Tytanomachia, and the Return of Troy (from the unsurpassed cycle of Nostoi) were also attributed (though not proven) to Eumelos by many later ancient writers.

The life of Eumelos is, according to tradition, dated from 760 to 720 BC. According to historian Martin West, the Epic Prosodion was created in the 7th or 6 th centuries BC, so later than tradition and later than Eusebius of Caesarea. Bibliography Authoritative control (person):
