Tony Wilson, actually Anthony Howard Wilson, known as Mr.. Manchester (born 20 February 1950 in Salford, England, 10 August 2007) is a British journalist, music impresario and radio host and host of a television show. He graduated from Cambridge University where he studied English literature and journalism. He ran the record label Factory Records and owned the Hacienda Club. Wilson has made history as an explorer and promoter of British music bands (Joy Division, Oasis, New Order, Happy Mondays, The Stone Roses and The Smiths).
Wilson's contribution to the development of British entertainment music in the 1980s and 1990s introduced Michael Winterbottom's 24 Hour Party People.
Tony Wilson died in Manchester on August 10, 2007. The cause of death was a heart attack caused by complications of kidney cancer. Authoritative control (person):
