Wojciech Gabriel


Wojciech Stanislaw Gabriel (August 16, 1919 in Olganow - January 12, 2005 in Warsaw), professor of agricultural sciences.

In 1948 he graduated from the Warsaw School of Economics. In the years 1939-1952 he worked as an assistant at the Plant Breeding Station A. Janasz and S-ka in Dańków, then he was the manager of the seed company in Kutno and the director of the Breeding Branch Bukka Cukrowego A. Janasz and S-ka. < / p>

Since 1953 he worked at the Potato Institute of the Institute of Soil Science and Plant Cultivation in Warsaw. He co-founded the Potato Institute in Bonin and in 1966-1972 he was its first director, then (until 1989) head of the Department of Viral Diseases and Seed Production. At the same time he obtained further degrees and academic titles - doctorate (1960), habilitation (1965), specialization (1974), professorship (1979). He retired in 1989. He was a member of the Polish Biometric Society, the Polish Phytopathological Society, the European Association of Potato Research (1975-1978 chairman), and was also a member of PTTK. He was a member of editorial committees of the "Potato Institute Bulletin" and the "Ziemniak" journal as well as the Scientific Council of the Potato Institute and the Scientific Committees of the Polish Academy of Sciences - Committee for Plant Conservation and the Committee for Cultivation and Plant Breeding.

Specialized in viral diseases and potato seedling. He has participated in breeding many new varieties of potato, published more than 100 scientific papers, including:

Laureate Award of the Faculty of Agricultural and Forestry Sciences, Polish Academy of Sciences (1960, 1983), honored with the Knight's Cross of the Order of Polonia Restituta and the Golden Cross of Merit. Bibliography
