Aksilla

Flowers and buds growing from the axillary in Mammillaria gigantea

Aksilla (groin) - a recess created by a system of 3 or 4 warts in some cacti, typical of for all species of the genus Mammillaria. It results from the separation of the areola and, as in the case of the areola, there is also the branching of the central conducting beam here. From the aksilla, new shoots, flowers and fruits can be sprouted, as well as Italian or bristly, delicate thorns. The presence and arrangement of the aksilla is one of the characteristics of the cactus species analyzed.
