Persistent hyperplastic primary vitreous (PHPV) - an inherited defect of the eye consisting of hypertrophy / fetal hyperplasia of the fibrous tissue of the stroma of the eye. The primary vitreous body is formed around the 7th week of fetal life and begins to develop gradually from the 20th week. Almost always he is absent from the newborn.
