L'asiento - Spanish term indicating each type of privilege granted by the ruler to another state or citizens.
From the end of the 16th century until the eighteenth century, the word was synonymous with the contract of bringing black slaves to the Spanish colonies in America under the conditions of a monopoly, the so-called asiento de negros. Initially this privilege was granted to private individuals, then to navigation companies or periodically to other countries. First, the Genoese, then the Portuguese and finally the Dutch. In 1713 the I'asiento Utrecht was awarded the 30th Anniversary of the English Society of the South Seas.
L'asiento was officially abolished by Spain in 1759, but this did not mean the end of the slave trade. Bibliography
