Copper, plastic and brass cap
Tape - A small plastic or metal shroud normally found on the shoelace and sometimes ropes or twine to protect it from shredding. Its hardness and compactness also make it easier to squeeze through holes or other narrow slits. The tag is also referred to as the "aglet" (or "aiglet"), which is derived from the Old French "aguilette" (or "aiguilette") and is a diminutive of the "aguille" (or "aiguille") of the needle. This is from acus, the Latin word for needle.
Nowadays, tags are made mostly of plastic, but in the past they were made of metal, glass or stone. Many of them were highly decorated and had a decorative character. Such tags were made of silver, gold and other expensive materials. Before the invention of buttons were used on the ends of strings, ribbons or straps allowing to lace clothes. Sometimes they were shaped like small figures.
Today, at home, the tags can be made of materials such as adhesive tape, glue, wax, resin, yarn, welded plastic, metal tube or by simply melting or bonding the end of the shoelace.
