Phalene
Phalene - one of the breeds of dogs, combining the spaniels and spines, with the papillon recognized by the International Kennel Federation (FCI) as the continental spaniel variety (Epagneul nain continental). Phalene is considered to be a variation with hanging ears. Many cynologists and cynological organizations treat pappillons and phalenes as separate breeds, with their origins being differently explained.
The breed's name is derived from the French word phalène meaning "moth" - it refers to the shape of an ear resembling butterfly wings.
The origin and history of the two races are linked. Their features are almost identical. The only difference is the arrangement of the ears. A separate article: Papillon (dog breed).
