Kanmon (Strait)
Kanmon (関門 海峡, Kanmon-kaikyō), also known as Shimonoseki Strait (Japanese 下 関 海峡, Shimonoseki-kaikyō); Polish pronunciation and pronunciation: "Kammon Strait". This narrow strait separates the two Japanese islands of Honshu and Kyushu. It is geographically to the Seto Inland Sea. Strait of Kanmon - view from the air, Kyushu on the left, Honshu on the right On both sides of the strait there are towns: on the Honshu side - Shimonoseki (formerly Akamagaseki) and on the Kyushu side - industrial Kitakyūshū (formerly known as Moji, now a district). They are connected by both tunnels and the 1,086 m long suspension bridge, also called Kanmon. It was commissioned in 1973. Near the bridge is a small park (Mimosuso River Park) commemorating the important battle in Japan that took place in the Dan-no-Ura bay in 1185. There were replicas of cannons, warriors and information boards.
The old name of the Kammon Strait is Bakan-kaikyō.
