Karavasta (zatoka)

Karavasta - a bay of the Adriatic Sea type lagoon off the coast of Albania. Area - 43.3 km², maximum dimensions - 10.6 to 4.3 km, maximum depth - 1.5 m.

The lagoon separates from the open sea a damp shaft partially covered with forest. It is connected to the open sea with three short channels of total capacity of 15-30 m³ / s. The salinity of the lagoon ranges from 5.5% to 2%.

Part of the Karavasta lagoon is the smaller but deeper Godulla lagoon with an area of ​​8.5 km² and a maximum depth of 3.8 m.

Laguna Karavasta is a water bird sanctuary protected by the Pisha e Divjakës National Park of 12.5 km².
