Soldier of Royal Regiment of Foot (1742)
The oldest regiment in the British Army. He founded it in 1633 Sir John Hepburn under the edict of Charles I of Stuart. He was then named Royal Regiment of Foot. From 1751 renamed to the 1st Infantry Regiment. Soldiers of the regiment fought in the second half of the 17th century against the Dutch. They participated in the great battles of the eighteenth century; Ramillies (1706), Oudenarde (1708) Malplaquet (1709), Fontenoy (1745), Culloden (1746). He participated in an expedition to Puerto Bello (1740). During the Seven Years War (1756-1763) he served in America.
In his history he carried the following name:
Since the Scots were always recruited to the regiment, they are now called Royal Scots. It is part of the so- Scottish Infantry Division. Bibliography
