University Library in Zielona Góra
The University Library in Zielona Góra has been operating since 1 September 2001, since the establishment of the University of Zielona Góra. It was created by merging the Central Library of the Pedagogical University and the Central Library of the University of Zielona Góra. The University Library has two branches: the Faculty of Humanities and Social Sciences, located at ul. Polish Army, where the management of the library and the Department of Technical, Scientific and Technical Sciences located at ul. Podgórnej.
In December 2012 a new university library was opened. The new building has five storeys above ground level and a basement (the total area is over 8,000 m). In the building there are rooms for training, seminars and scientific meetings. It is one of the most modern facilities of this type in the province. Lubusz.
The new design is based on glass facades, a spacious courtyard with greenery. The facade was additionally decorated with vine motifs. Architectural design of the new library was created in the NOW Architectural Office in Lodz. The cost of the whole investment amounted to PLN 26m. The library has 914 973 units in its inventory, which include: 511 145 volumes of compact publications. 325 178 units of special collections, including 2133 units of manuscripts and old prints. 78,650 volumes of periodicals and periodicals.
