Seán O'Faoláin


Seán O'Faoláin, author. John Francis Whelan (born 22 February 1900 in Cork, died April 20, 1991 in Dublin) is an Irish writer.

He wrote for 60 years, beginning in the twenties. In his work, he tackled contemporary social and moral problems in Ireland.

He taught at the Presentation Brothers Secondary School. He fought in the Irish War of Independence. He graduated from the National University of Ireland and Harvard University. In 1940-1946 he was editor of the literary periodical The Bell, for whom many well-known Irish writers such as Patrick Kavanagh, Flann O'Brien, Frank O'Connor and Brendan Behan wrote. From 1957 to 1959 he was the director of the Arts Council of Ireland. In 1986, Saoi was elected.
