Furdyment

An elaborate, rakish cover of the rapier handle Furdyment, otherwise known as a basket, is a very elaborate type of handle in some types of incisors (scabbard, saber, rapier).

A system of densely interwoven bows and sleeves forming a full palm cover. It is usually made of welded rods or cut out of sheet metal. The interior of the furdyment was often padded with a patch of leather or fabric. The handles of this type provided excellent protection for the hands of the combatant, but significantly limited the movement of the wrist.
