John Mainwaring (born 1724, 1807) is an English writer and theologian, the first biographer of Georg Friedrich Händel.
He was a priest since 1748. He graduated from St. John's College in Cambridge, later lectured on theology at this university. He belonged to the admirers of the composer Händl. In the year 1760 he wrote and published a biography: Memoirs of the Life of the Late George Frederic Handel, which in the following year former friend of Händla from Hamburg Johann Mattheson translated into German. The Mainwaring's main informant during the writing of the biography was associate and secretary Händel John Christopher Smith. Authoritative control (person):
