Nicholas Matussi
Nicholas Matussi (gr. Νικόλαος Ματούσης); b. 1898 in Samarina, d. after 1981 in Athens) - Aruman lawyer and politician. In the years 1942-1943 he was the leader of collaborative organizationo called "Roman Legion".
Nicholas Matussi was an ardent Armenian nationalist. In 1923 he was the leader of the Communist group in Trikala. In 1926 he was removed from the Communist Party, moved to Larissa and joined the Country Party of Jannis Sofianopulu. In 1941 he became a co-worker of Alcybiadesa Diamandi, and then leader of the so-called Roman Legion, an organization that supported the Italian army in occupied Greece. After Diamandis left in June 1942, he became the leader of Legia, but he ceased to perform this role when he left for Athens and then to Romania.
In Communist Romania Matussi was sentenced to 20 years in prison. In 1964 he returned to Greece, where, under the influence of Georgios Papandreou, he was not responsible for war crimes. In 1976 he was reinstated as a public figure. Until 1981 he lived and worked in Athens as an attorney.
