USS Skylark (ASR-20)
USS Skylark (ASR-20) was a submarine rescue ship of the Penguin type. The original unit name was "Yustaga" (ATF-165) but was changed during construction.
A ship of 1735 tons displacement was built in Charleston. The unit was originally planned as a tugboat, but by the end of 1945 the name was changed to "Skylark" (ASR-20). It was launched in March 1946 and completed several months later. Placed in reserve did not enter service until March 1951. Based in New London, during active service, he was sometimes assigned to other locations along the Atlantic coast of the US and in the Caribbean during the first decade of service. From January 1962 she began to fill the turf missions in the Mediterranean and operated underwater ballistic missiles in Holy Loch, Scotland. In 1963 and 1968 he assisted in the search for the damaged USS Thresher (SSN-593) and USS "Scorpion" (SSN-589).
Withdrawn from service in June 1973 "Skylark" was sold to Brazil. In the Navy of Brazil served under the name of "Gastão Moutinho". Initially as a submarine rescue ship (K 10), later as a coastal patrol vessel (U 20). Deleted in 1996. Bibliography
