Abul-Hasan al-Hasan ibn Ali

Abul-Hasan al-Hasan ibn Ali (also known as Al-Hassan ibn Ziri) was the eighth and last ruler of the Zirid dynasty in Ifrikija in 1121-1152.

Under his rule, piracy has become an important source of income, although it has destabilized relations with Christian maritime states.

Although the Norman expedition against Al-Mahdiji in 1123 failed, then in order to secure trade in the Mediterranean Sea, the Ziriens were compelled to accept the Norman-controlled Sicily. Between 1146 and 1148 the kingdom of Zirids collapsed when the Normans under the leadership of George of Antioch seized the coastal cities, and Abul-Hasan lost all territories except Algiers, which surrendered to the Almohad in 1152.

For his death, Abul-Hasan lived in Marrakech and retained some control over Al-Mahdi, which the Almohades captured on January 22, 1160.
