Piazza della Signoria - a square in central Florence built between the 12th and 14th centuries. It was built after the demolition of houses belonging to the gibelins. Surrounded by a number of palaces and sculptures displayed here, it forms an urban complex visited by numerous tourists. One of the most important buildings is the Vecchio Palace, located in its south-eastern part. In front of it is:
In the square, to the left of the Neptune fountain, there is an equestrian statue of Kosmy I, Prince of Tuscany. The monument from 1594 is the work of Giambologni. Placed on a pedestal decorated with reliefs showing the achievements of the duke. These are the scenes: "Entrance of Kosmy I to Siena"; "Granting the Cosmos and the Insignia of the Princes by Pope Pius V"; "Given the title of Grand Prince by the Tuscan Senate"
A small marble plate near the fountain was laid in place of the "fire of vanity" burned down by Savonarola and the pile on which his body was burnt.
Right from the Vecchio Palace is the late Gothic Loggia dei Lanzi.
