Yukon Quest
Start for the Yukon Quest in Whitehorse on February 9, 2003 Yukon Quest - a one-thousandth international dog sled race held annually in February in North America. In evenings, the race runs from Fairbanks, Alaska to Whitehorse in the Canadian Yukon Territory, and in the odd years, the participants are heading in the opposite direction. Yukon Quest is considered to be the hardest and most dangerous dog sled race in the world.
Musketeers and teams consisting of 10-14 dogs overcome the historical gold rush over the Klondike. Participants can not use any help except in the city of Dawson City, which is halfway between start and finish, taking on all the equipment needed to survive and feed themselves and dogs.
The first Yukon Quest winner was Sonny Lindner in 1984, the speed record for the tour was Lance Mackey (10 days, 2 hours, 37 minutes) - he is also one of the two winners in this. Three times and the only man who won Iditarod and Yukon Quest in one year. The first woman to win at Yukon Quest was Aliy Zirkle in 2000.
