Diego de Nicuesa - Spanish explorer and explorer, conquistador, participant of the fourth expedition of Columbus to America.

Diego de Nicuesa was a nobleman, distinguished by playing guitar and masterly riding. In 1506, he was the first to raise Costa Rica. He penetrated part of the Atlantic coast of the country, however, by fighting the Indians, the heat of the tropics, the yellow fever, left the country.

After returning from Columbus's expedition, Alonzo de Hojeda tried to obtain a concession for colonization of newly discovered Caribbean Sea countries (today's area from Honduras to Panama). The deal was received and after the sale of all the property organized an expedition. At the end of November 1509, with 700 people and six horses, they will float on three caravans. On the Panama coast two caravans under the command of Olando, lost and landed on the shore. The estate was built and was expected to arrive at Nicuesa. When the help arrived, Olando built a new ship and decided to look for Nicues. Their fate is unknown. The construction of the ship was immortalized by Theodore De Bry. Diego de Nicuesa carved his caravans on the shores of Panama where, due to hunger and fighting with the Indians, most of the crew lost their lives. Nicues and 40 survivors encountered Vasca Nunez de Balboa and reached Darien. He demanded sovereignty over the land. Balboa considered it an abuse of power and put him and some of his followers on board and sent him to sea. Heard about them disappearing. Bibliography Authoritative control (person):
