Lukanowski Cemetery


Lukanowski Cemetery (Лук'янівське кладовище, Łuk'janiwśke kładowyszcze) - one of the oldest cemeteries in Kiev.

It was founded in 1878 as a municipal cemetery - previously housed in a local hospital for several years. The rest of the cemetery was found by representatives of well-known Kievan families. Połubotków, Leontowicz, Samojłowicz.

After the liquidation of the necropolis on Askoldo Mogile and near Pokrovsk Monastery, some of the most valuable gravestones were moved here. In the cemetery were buried those killed in the battle of Krutia, as well as the victims of the Kiev NKVD.
