Gulf carotid artery
Topography of the arteries of the neck, visible joint of the carotid artery.
Carotid artery (sinus carotid sinus) - a place just before the carotid artery splitting into the internal and external carotid artery containing numerous baroreceptors. These receptors, under the influence of changes in arterial blood pressure, send impulses to the nucleus of the vagal nerve and angioedema in the brainstem. The reflexive arm is the nerve fibers that reach the sinus node and the atrio-ventricular node, modulating the heart's response to the signals from the cervical sinus.
In some people, the reflex is particularly acute: the pressure on the sinuses can cause a significant reduction in heart rate, which results in syncope. At the same time, this hand ("sinus massage") is used as the first intervention in the management of certain types of supraventricular tachycardia.
