Leon Machowski

Leon Machowski (born 1916 in Rzeszow, 1988) - sculptor, Ignacy Machowski's brother (actor).
Before the war he served in the Regiment of Podhale Riflemen, where he made special works as a plastic artist, such as three-dimensional military maps.
In 1939 he graduated from the Academy of Fine Arts. Jan Matejko in Cracow and received a scholarship to continue his studies in Italy. These plans, however, wiped out the outbreak of war. From 1945 he took part in exhibitions nationwide and abroad (eg in 1957 at the international exhibition of sculptures in Carrara).
After the war, already as a valued artist, he took part. In reconstruction of Chopin's monument in Warsaw.
In the years 1951-1952 he received a number of awards and achievements in competitions for monuments (eg monument on MDM - Theater group on the building at 34/50 Cartowa Street, partisan, Wyzwolenia arch in Lublin). He also worked on many reconstructions of sculptures at the Warsaw Cathedral, at the University of Warsaw,
Between 1945 and 1952 he was an academic teacher in Lodz, Zakopane, Warsaw.
Between 1955 and 1958 he was the secretary of sculpture in the ZPAP district in Warsaw. His last work was a 22-meter bas-relief epitaph on the grave of Cardinal Stefan Wyszynski in the cathedral of Sts. John the Baptist in Warsaw. When he finished the work, even in the cathedral, not even in his studio at Stawki, he got a heart attack after which he died. Buried on Old Coats.
He also dealt with painting. His best works include paintings in the studio, White-haired Woman and Self-Portrait (in private collections).
In November 2013, the decision of the authorities of the Śródmieście district of the Warsaw studio of the artist was demolished. The sculpture surrounding it and the mosaic pavilion were also destroyed.
