Omatidium (Latin ommatidium), facet - the basic element of the complex eye structure. It has the shape of an elongated cone. It is made of clear cuticle skin, dioptric device, receptor and pigmented insulation.
In single eye omatidia are close together, and their dioptric devices consist of the main surface. The number of facets in the eye depends on the species - from one of the Pomera punctatissima species to many thousands of dragonflies.
