Stanisław Żurawski (activist)
Stanisław Żurawski (born December 14, 1865 in Kajnach, died 17 January 1943) is an activist of the Polish movement in southern Warmia during the interwar period. Curriculum vitae
He was born on December 14, 1865 in Kajnach, in the family of wealthy farmer Piotr Żurawski and Euphrosy from the house of von Bogien. After his father he took over an 80 hectare farm. In 1931 it was valued at 80 thousand. brands. He was a member of the board of the People's Bank of Olsztyn. He was part of the "Rolnik" cooperative formed in 1921 by the Supervisory Board of Agricultural Cooperative in Olsztyn. He participated in the founding meeting of the Association of Poles in East Prussia (November 30, 1920). Together with Fr. Waclaw Osinski represented the Polish Warmia in the district parliament (until 1933) and was promoted as a candidate for the parliament of the German and Prussian parliament. He was a member of the Polish-Catholic School Association for Warmia. At that time, his youngest children (Urszula, Władysław, Zofia) attended a Polish school in Brąswałd. His son - Alfon Żurawski - studied philosophy at the University of Konigsberg, where he was incorporated into the Wehrmacht. Then on August 20, 1942, he was sentenced to death for treason. Judgment was made on October 7, 1942.
In January 1943 he was beaten on his farm in Kajnach by the Olsztyn Gestapo. As a result of beatings, he died on January 17, 1943. He was buried in the Brigwald cemetery.
