Archdiocese of Mahilo


Mogilev Archdiocese - Roman Catholic Archdiocese, erected on the initiative of the Empress of Russia Catherine II by Pope Pius VI with the bull "Onerosa pastoralis officii cura" April 15, 1783 From 1798 the seat of the metropolis. In the years 1873-1917 the archbishops resided in St. Petersburg.

Until the last regulation, the Diocese had occupied the territory of almost all of Russia (and later the USSR) with the exception of the former lands of the Commonwealth and established in 1848 by the Diocese of Tiraspol. In 1991 Pope John Paul II was merged with the diocese of Minsk and truncated territory only to the territory of the emerging independent Belarus, forming the archdiocese of Minsk-Mahilyow.

The cathedral churches were: Stanislaus in Mogilev and the Church of the Dormition of St. Mary in St. Petersburg.
