Edgeworth diagram
A graph of two complex coordinate systems for two people, Anna and Mark. The chart meets the following conditions: - The origin of the coordinate system for Mark takes place at M, for Anna at A "The red indifference curves belong to Mark, blue to Anna - On each axis is determined the consumption of one of the goods, butter (axes AB and CM) or ham (axes AC and BM). The black AM line (the contract curve) determines the points in which Pareto is optimal in the sense that the marginal rates of substitution of one good second Anna and Mark will be equal in these points (the indifference curves are tangent to each other). At the point '' h '', not on the line AM Anna can increase its utility by consuming more butter and less ham, thus moving to the '' 'and' ''. In this situation we will move along the same curve of Mark's indifference - his utility will not change, which means that the situation h is ineffective in the sense of Pareto.
Edgeworth's graph (or Edgeworth's case) is one of the ways in which Paretowski's graphical presentation of optimism, by Irish economist Francis Edgeworth. It shows possible combinations of allocation of goods between two people, presenting both optimal and non-optimal combinations. Bibliography
