Pinany

Pinany - a group of organic compounds that are biennial terpenes. The main representatives of this group are the α and β pinene, the primary components of turpentine. The systematic name of the α-pinene enantiomers is (1R, 5R) - (+) - or (1S, 5S) - (-) - 2,6,6- trimethylbicyclo [3.1.1] hept- 1R, 5R) - (+) - or (1S, 5S) - (-) - 6,6-dimethyl-2-methylenebicyclo [3.1.1] hept-2-ene. All four pinene isomers occur in nature, mainly in needles, cones and most coniferous wood. In reaction with gaseous hydrogen chloride, α- and β-pinene form a crystalline product - bornyl chloride, called camphor.
