Transverse - point gene mutation, a chemical change within a DNA strand in which the purine principle is converted to pyrimidine or vice versa. Depending on the location in the codon, the mutation may not cause any change in the protein (eg UCA → UCU, both codons are serine), a change in the encoded amino acid (eg, UCA → ACA changes serine to threonine) or shortening of the amino acid chain Stop codon (eg UCA → UAA, ore codon).
