François Gigot of Peyronie (1678-1747).

François Gigot de La Peyronie (born 15 January 1678 in Montpellier, died April 25, 1747 in Versailles) is a French surgeon, anatomy and surgery teacher in Montpellier. His father, whose home was Gujenna, moved to Montpellier, where he worked as a barber. The local physician Pierre Chirac and his family supported the education of his son. After his stay in Paris (1695-97), where he was taught by the royal surgeon Georges Mareschal (1658-1736), he returned to Montpellier, where he remained until 1715. In 1715 he became a doctor in Paris, and in 1717 - the first surgeon of King Louis XV of France. In 1731 he led the establishment of the Academy of Surgery (L'Académie Royale de Chirurgie) in Paris and gave privileges to French surgeons. He spoke at the inauguration of the Academy on December 18, 1733.
